Our Mission In Action

Support for groundbreaking brain cancer diagnostic tool

Pediatric oncologist Dr. Ching Lau is a professor at The Jackson Laboratory, a nonprofit biomedical institution committed to basic research discoveries that will change the landscape of cancer detection and care. Dr. Lau and his lab team have developed a first-of-its-kind assay that can accurately diagnose germ cell tumors using spinal fluid obtained from a less invasive procedure such as a spinal tap. The test could also potentially be used for monitoring response to therapy or disease progression. To certify the assay for routine clinical applications, Dr. Lau requires more tests (60-70 total at a cost of $2,000 each) to generate compelling data. This innovative discovery has the potential to improve the diagnosis process for thousands of brain cancer patients.

The Nick Strong Foundation will be making a sizable donation to cover the cost of these tests and advance the research.

The foundation was able to financially assist two pediatric cancer patients this month. If you know of a family in need of assistance please click on the contact link to provide us information.

As always, a big THANK YOU to those of you who donate blood or platelets to Children’s Hospital in honor of Nick. There is always a need and platelets only last 5 days, so their life saving supply is only as good as their donor list that week!! Send us a photo and we’ll add you to our newsletter!!

Click HERE and select ‘Schedule an Appointment’ to donate blood or platelets.

The staff at the donation center is amazing, we are featuring our favorite clinician Hassan! (pictured far right)
